College football’s top kicking award, the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award sponsored by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission recognizes three of the top kickers each week from FBS division (Div 1A) teams as the “Stars of the Week”.

Senior Devin Barclay tied a school record by kicking five field goals in Ohio State’s 36-24 defeat of the University of Miami in Columbus on Saturday. The Annapolis, Maryland native connected from 41, 21, and three times from 24 yards as the second-ranked Buckeyes began their quest for a national championship at the expense of the twelfth-ranked Hurricanes. Barclay joins three former Buckeye place-kickers, including 2004 Lou Groza Award winner Mike Nugent, to kick five field goals in a game. He added three extra points for an 18-point day.

The strong leg of Chris Boswell was the difference in the 32-31 victory over North Texas by Rice University in Denton, Texas. The redshirt freshman tied a school record by kicking four field goals in the game, including not one, but two from 50 yards. Besides the two fifty yarders the Keller, Texas native connected from 23 and 24 yards. After two games, Boswell has made five field goals and scored 19 points.

Michigan State sophomore Dan Conroy, a native of Wheaton, Illinois, has yet to miss after the first two games of the season. He connected from 41, 44 and a career-high 50 yards to contribute to the Spartans’ 30-17 defeat of Florida Atlantic University.   Conroy’s 12 points were also a career high, as he was a perfect three-for-three on his PAT attempts.

The Lou Groza Award will be presented as part of the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show in Orlando, Florida on Thursday, December 9th. The three finalists will be honored at the 19th Annual Lou Groza Awards Banquet on Tuesday, December 7th at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, Florida. For more information on the Groza Award and the Palm Beach County Sports Commission, visit www.palmbeachsports.com.
