College football’s top kicking award, the Lou Groza Collegiate Place Kicker Award sponsored by the Palm BeachCounty Sports Commission recognizes three of the top kickers each week from FBS division (Div 1A) teams as the “Stars of the Week.” This week, the performances of three of the twenty semi-finalists are highlighted.

University of Illinois junior Derek Dimke connected twice on field goals from 43 yards, added another from 44, and was a perfect 6-for-6 on extra point attempts in a wild triple-overtime 67-65 loss to Michigan in Ann Arbor on Saturday. The Rockford, Ill. native improved to 18-of-21 field goals made on the year, and he has not missed on 28 PATs. His 82 points lead the Fighting Illini in scoring. He is averaging two field goals per game, which ties him for second in the nation, along with fellow semi-finalist Dan Bailey of Oklahoma State.

Danny Hrapmann has moved into the national lead in field goals made with his performance in the University of Southern Mississippi’s 46-30 defeat of Tulane in New Orleans. The redshirt junior connected from 33, 34 and 49 yards in front of friends and family in his hometown. He has made 21 of his 23 field goal tries and all 33 of his PATs. Hrapmann also leads the nation, averaging 2.33 field goals per game and is just three shy of setting a school record for field goals made in a season. His 97 points lead the Golden Eagles in scoring.

LSU senior Josh Jasper’s three field goals were vital to the Tiger’s 24-21 defeat of Alabama in Baton Rouge on Saturday. The Memphis, Tenn. native hit from 35, 39 and 45 yards out, as the loss virtually crushed the Crimson Tide’s SEC championship hopes. Jasper has made 17 of his 21 field goal tries this season. His 72 points lead all LSU scorers. After nine games, Jasper’s rate of 1.89 field goals per game ranks fifth in the nation.
