College football’s top kicking award, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award presented by the Orange Bowl recognizes three top kickers each week from FBS division teams as the “Stars of the Week.”

Freshman Andy Borregales’ career-long 43-yard field goal with two minutes remaining saved the day as the Miami Hurricanes came from behind to edge Appalachian State 25-23 in their home opener in Miami Gardens, Fla. on Saturday. The younger brother of 2020 Lou Groza Award recipient Jose Borregales made three of four field goal tries, also connecting from 27 and 38 yards out. He made both his PATs for an 11-point game. The Miami native has made five of his six field goal attempts in two games this season.

Boise State sophomore Jonah Dalmas contributed 18 points to the Broncos’ 54-13 blowout of UTEP in Boise, Idaho on Friday night. The 18-point total led all FBS kickers in scoring this week. The Meridian, Idaho native went 4-for-4 on field goals, connecting from 39, 34, 29 and 27 yards out, and was 6-for-6 on extra points. Dalmas has yet to miss a kick of any kind so far this season, staying perfect on 5 field goal attempts and 10 PATs. His 25 points lead all Bronco players and tie for 4th among FBS kickers.

Arkansas freshman Cam Little’s career is getting off to a big start. His four field goals contributed to the Razorbacks’ 40-21 upset of #15 Texas in Fayetteville, Ark. on Saturday. The native of Moore, Okla. also connected on four extra point tries, becoming the first Arkansas kicker since 2007 to make 4 FGs and 4 PATs in the same game. The field goal attempts came from 44, 22 and twice from 24 yards out. With 5 field goals and 9 PATs, his 24 points lead the Razorbacks in scoring and tie for 7th among FBS kickers.

The Award is named for National Football League Hall of Fame kicker Lou “The Toe” Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954. Although an All-Pro offensive lineman as well, Groza ushered in the notion that there should be a place on an NFL roster for a kicker.
