College football’s top kicking award, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award presented by the Orange Bowl recognizes three top kickers each week from FBS division teams as the “Stars of the Week.” This week’s selections have been selected from among the 20 semifinalists.

Sophomore Jonah Dalmas was perfect yet again and helped Boise State to a 40-14 defeat of Fresno State in their Mountain West Conference game in Fresno, Calif. on Saturday night. The Meridian, Idaho native recorded his third 4-for-4 game of the season, including a 47-yard field goal that is his longest of the year. He added a pair of kicks from 27 yards and a 32 yarder. Dalmas has now made 11 straight attempts, the fourth-longest streak in the nation. He is 19-for-21 on field goals which ties him for third place in makes nationally. He added four extra points and is perfect for 31 tries on the season. His 16 points this week give him a total of 88 which leads all Broncos in scoring.

Michigan’s Jake Moody became the nation’s leading kick-scorer in the Wolverines’ 29-7 Big Ten victory over Indiana in Ann Arbor, Mich. on Saturday. The Northfield, Mich. senior connected twice from 34 yards out and once from 32 to move to 21-for-23 on the year. That gives him the second-most field goals in the country and a 91.3% accuracy rate that tops anyone else with more than 15 makes. Moody converted both his extra point attempts for an 11-point game. He has not missed a PAT in 33 tries and his team-leading 96 points are tied for third among all FBS players.

Noah Ruggles continued his perfect season by kicking four field goals in Ohio State’s 26-17 defeat of Nebraska in Big Ten action on the road in Lincoln, Neb. on Saturday. The graduate transfer from Odessa, Fla. booted two 46-yard field goals and added makes of 35 and 26 yards away. He is now 15-for-15 for the season, the most by any FBS kicker still yet to miss. He also has yet to miss on an extra point, adding two more to move to 49-for-49 on the year. His 94 points are second among FBS kickers and lead all Buckeyes in scoring.

The Award is named for National Football League Hall of Fame kicker Lou “The Toe” Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954. Although an All-Pro offensive lineman as well, Groza ushered in the notion that there should be a place on an NFL roster for a kicker.
