WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – College football’s top kicking award, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award presented by the Orange Bowl recognizes three of the top kickers each week from FBS division teams as the “Stars of the Week.”

South Alabama sophomore Diego Guajardo had the best game of his brief college career, kicking three field goals in the Jaguars’ 30-20 defeat of Texas State in Mobile, Ala. on Saturday. The Spanish Fort, Ala. native had makes of 44, 33 and 24 yards and made all three of his conversion attempts as well. Guajardo, who took over starting duties this season, is the first USA kicker to convert three field goals in a game since 2017. With 7 field goals this season, he is tied for 10th in the nation. His 12-point game is a career best and brings his season total to a team-leading 30.

Redshirt freshman Matt Quinn kicked a career-best three field goals in UAB’s 37-14 Conference USA victory over Western Kentucky in Birmingham, Ala. on Saturday. The win put the Blazers atop the C-USA West standings. The Spanish Fort, Ala. native hit from 30, 38 and a career-long of 44 yards. He made his four extra point tries for a career-best 13-point game. With 33 points on the season, Quinn is second in team scoring.

2019 Groza Award semifinalist Nick Sciba went 4-for-4 on field goals as Wake Forest downed Virginia 40-23 in ACC action in Winston-Salem, N.C. Saturday night. The junior from Clover, S.C. and NCAA record holder for consecutive field goals made, connected from 44, 38, 32 and 25 yards out. He also went 4-for-4 on PATs. His 16-point game topped all FBS kickers this week and brought his season total to 38 points, second among Demon Deacon players and tied for 10th among FBS kickers.

The Award is named for National Football League Hall of Fame kicker Lou “The Toe” Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954. Although an All-Pro offensive lineman as well, Groza ushered in the notion that there should be a place on an NFL roster for a kicker.
