WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – College football’s top kicking award, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award presented by the Orange Bowl recognizes three of the top kickers each week from FBS division teams as the “Stars of the Week.”

Senior Matt Coghlin’s 48-yard field goal with 2:47 left to play gave Michigan State a 23-20 lead on the way to a 29-20 Big Ten defeat of Penn State in East Lansing, Mich. on Saturday afternoon. Besides the game winner, the Cincinnati, Ohio native also connected from 44 and 22 yards for his third multi-FG game of the short season. Coghlin was 3-for-4 on the day with his miss coming from 49 yards out. He also extended his career-long perfect PAT streak with two more conversions, bringing his season scoring total to 30 points which leads all Spartans.

2019 Lou Groza Award finalist Keith Duncan booted four field goals, including a pair in the fourth quarter that gave Iowa a 26-20 victory over Nebraska in Big Ten action at Iowa City on Friday.  The senior from Weddington, N.C. had makes of 48, 37, 33 and 32 yards to move into the top-five in the Hawkeye record books for career field goals with 48. He converted both extra point attempts for a 14-point game, the best by an FBS kicker this week. For the season, Duncan is 10-for-14 on field goals and 21-for-21 on PATs, bringing his season total to a team-leading 51 points.

Georgia State graduate transfer Noel Ruiz put the icing on the cake with a 35-yard field goal with under two minutes to play in the Panthers’ 30-24 defeat of rival Georgia Southern in Atlanta on Saturday. That field goal capped a 17-point fourth quarter comeback. In the first half, the Wilson, North Carolina native had another 35 yarder and a make from 29 yards as well. His lone PAT capped his 10-point game. Ruiz is 11-for-14 on field goals and 30-for-31 on PATs for a team-leading 53 points.

The Lou Groza Award and the Palm Beach County Sports Commission salute Vanderbilt senior Sarah Fuller for her landmark achievement as the first woman to play in a Power 5 conference football game.

The Award is named for National Football League Hall of Fame kicker Lou “The Toe” Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954. Although an All-Pro offensive lineman as well, Groza ushered in the notion that there should be a place on an NFL roster for a kicker.
