College football’s top kicking award, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award presented by the Orange Bowl recognizes three of the top kickers each week from FBS division teams as the “Stars of the Week.”

John Barron II booted a 51-yard field goal to break a fourth-quarter tie, and lead San Diego State to a 16-13 victory over San Jose State in Mountain West Conference action in San Diego on Saturday. The 2016 Groza semifinalist is 4-for-4 from 50+ yards this season, tied for the FBS lead, and the only perfect mark with that many attempts. The senior from Temecula, California also had makes of 36 and 22 yards. He converted after the Aztecs only touchdown for a 10-point game to earn his second Stars of the Week selection this season. His 51 points lead the team in scoring.

For the second consecutive week and the fourth time this year, LSU senior Cole Tracy has earned Stars of the Week honors. This time his four field goals led the Tigers to a 19-3 defeat of Mississippi State in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Saturday night. He has made nine field goals in a two-game span – a first in school history – to take his total to an FBS-leading 21 for the season. The Camarillo, California native is 21-for-23 on the year, with both misses on 53-yard attempts. His 87 points lead the Tigers in scoring, and are fifth in FBS among all players.

UCF and Matthew Wright are both still perfect after the senior contributed three field goals to the Knights’ 37-10 road victory over East Carolina in Greenville, North Carolina on Saturday. Wright has not missed any of his 49 kicks this season, including an 8-for-8 field goal mark that brings his career total to 51, just three shy of the UCF record. The Lancaster, Pennsylvania  native connected from 46, 41 and 39 yards, and made all four of his PATs. His 65 points lead all Knights in scoring.

The Award is named for National Football League Hall of Fame kicker Lou “The Toe” Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954. Although an All-Pro offensive lineman as well, Groza ushered in the notion that there should be a place on an NFL roster for a kicker.
