College football’s top kicking award, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award presented by the Orange Bowl recognizes three of the top kickers each week from FBS division teams as the “Stars of the Week.”

Tennessee kicker Brett Cimaglia’s 12-point game was more than the difference in the Vols’ 30-24 upset of #21 Auburn in SEC action on the road in Auburn, Alabama on Saturday.  The Franklin, Tennessee native was 3-for-4 on field goals with makes of 45, 42 and 20 yards away. His blocked attempt from 48 yards out was the first missed kick of any kind this season for the sophomore. He added three extra points for a season scoring total of 38 that leads all Tennessee players.

Texas A&M rode the leg of freshman kicker Seth Small to a 26-23 defeat of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina on Saturday. Small, who stepped in for injured 2017 Groza semifinalist Daniel LaCamera five games ago, put the first points on the board with a 52-yard boot, his second from that length this season, and his 4th quarter 39 yarder put the Aggies ahead late. The Katy, Texas native also had makes of 32 and 20 yards and made both his extra point tries. Despite his partial season, Small’s 45 points place him second in team scoring.

Senior Cole Tracy earned his second Star of the Week selection by scoring half of LSU’s points in the Tigers’ 36-16 upset of #2 Georgia in Baton Rouge on Saturday. The Camarillo, California native tied the school record for field goals, going 5-for-5 with makes of 39, 36, 33, 30 and 24 yards out. It was the first time LSU made five field goals in a game since 2010. He made all three extra point tries for a school-record 18-point game. Tracy is 17-for-19 on field goals this season to lead the FBS in makes, while his 74 points rank second in kick-scoring and fifth overall.

The Award is named for National Football League Hall of Fame kicker Lou “The Toe” Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954. Although an All-Pro offensive lineman as well, Groza ushered in the notion that there should be a place on an NFL roster for a kicker.
