College football’s top kicking award, the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award presented by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission recognizes three of the top kickers each week from FBS division teams as the “Stars of the Week.”

Freshman kicker Chris Callahan emerged as the hero in Baylor’s astonishing 61-58 come-from-behind defeat of TCU in Waco on Saturday night. His 28 yard game-winner as time expired capped a 24 point comeback to preserve the Bears’ undefeated record. The Houston, Texas native also connected from 29, 22 and 20 yards, and was 7-for-7 on extra point tries. His 19 point game is the most by a kicker in Baylor history. Callahan has made all 37 of his extra point tries for the high scoring Bears and his 52 points lead the team.

West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen had every confidence sophomore kicker Josh Lambert would make the 55 yard field goal attempt needed to defeat Texas Tech on Saturday. That bomb was Lambert’s third in three attempts from more than 50 yards this season and capped a string of 17 unanswered points to give the Mountaineers their 37-34 victory. The Garland, Texas native leads the nation in field goals from at least 50 yards and is tied for the national lead in field goals made with 14. It was his second game-winner this season, the third of his career. Lambert also connected from 42 and 38 yards and was perfect in four PAT tries. His 64 points lead all WVU scorers and place him third nationally in scoring by kickers.

Iowa State University’s Cole Netten is one of just six specialists in the nation who have yet to miss either a field goal or extra point after seven weeks of the season. Netten’s 13 points proved to be the difference in the Cyclones’ 37-30 defeat of Toledo in Ames on Saturday. The sophomore from Ankeny, Iowa connected from 38, 36 and 32 yards and made all four of his extra point tries. He has not missed in seven field goal attempts or 18 extra point tries this season, and has made 10 consecutive field goals dating to last year. His 39 points lead all Cyclone scorers.

The Lou Groza Award will be presented as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards in Orlando, Fla. on Thursday, December 11th. The three finalists will be honored at the 23rd Annual Lou Groza Awards Banquet on Tuesday, December 9th at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, Fla.
