College football’s top kicking award, the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award presented by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission recognizes three of the top kickers each week from FBS division teams as the “Stars of the Week.”

University of Virginia junior kicker Ian Frye moved into a tie for the national lead in field goals made with his career-best performance in the Cavaliers’ 41-33 loss to BYU in Provo, Utah on Saturday. The Bristol, Va. native connected on field goals of 46, 41, 23 and 22 yards in the first four field goal game of his career. He has made 10 of his 11 field goal attempts this season. Frye also made his three PAT attempts on Saturday and is now 13-for-13 on extra point tries this season. His 15-point performance takes his season total to 43 which leads the team.

A perfect season continued Saturday for kicker Josh Lambo who made all three of his field goal attempts and seven extra points in Texas A&M’s one-sided 58-6 victory over SMU in Dallas. Lambo has yet to miss a kick of any kind this season, going 6-for-6 on field goals and 29-for-29 on PATS, giving him the most kicks by any kicker still perfect on the year. The junior from Middleton, Wis. hit a career-long 50 yarder as well as field goals of 39 and 24 yards. His 47 points lead the Aggies in scoring and place him second nationally in kick-scoring.

The strong leg of sophomore Andy Phillips was a major weapon in Utah’s 26-10 defeat of Michigan in a weather-delayed game in Ann Arbor on Saturday which improved the Utes’ record to 3-0. Phillips, a native of Draper, Utah, connected on field goals of 50, 48, 38 and 35 yards and hit both PAT tries in a 4-for-5 performance that included a late miss from 41 soggy yards out. It was the first time a Utah kicker made four field goals in a game since 2011. Besides outscoring Michigan on his own, Phillips’ 14 points improved his season total to a team-leading 33.

The Lou Groza Award will be presented as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards in Orlando, Fla. on Thursday, December 11th. The three finalists will be honored at the 23rd Annual Lou Groza Awards Banquet on Tuesday, December 9th at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, Fla.
