College football’s top kicking award, the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award presented by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission recognizes three of the top kickers each week from FBS division teams as the “Stars of the Week.”

Everything went right for University of Memphis kicker Jake Elliott against the University of Houston except the Tigers lost the game 25-15. But Elliott went 5-for-5 on his field goal tries to provide all the Memphis scoring. The true freshman from Western Springs, Ill. connected on a career-long 50 yarder and also scored from 42, 38, 33, and 24 yards. He has yet to miss in his Memphis career, currently running a 10-for-10 streak. His five field goal performance ties the school’s single game record and is the first time a Tiger kicker has ever made five in a game without a miss. Elliott’s 10 field goals are second in the nation among kickers who have yet to miss, and his 38 points lead the Tigers in scoring.

UNLV senior placekicker Nolan Kohorst kicked a 44-yard field goal as time expired to give the Rebels a 39-37 win over Hawaii in Mountain West Conference action in Las Vegas. The win was the fourth straight for the Rebels, who haven’t accomplished that feat since the 2000 season. The Henderson, Nev. native also connected on field goals of 41, 35, and 19 yards and added 3 PATs for a 15-point game. It was his first career game-winning kick. Kohorst is 7-of-9 on field goal tries this season and brought his scoring total to 44 points.

Cairo Santos won the 2012 Lou Groza Award on the strength of his perfect 21-for-21 season. Although he has been less than perfect this season, the Green Wave have ridden his leg to victory in consecutive games. The senior from St. Augustine, Fla. scored from 42 yards on Tulane’s first play of the third overtime to earn a 36-33 Conference USA victory over East Carolina in New Orleans, his second game-winner in as many weeks.  Santos also connected twice more from 42 yards as well as from 43 and 28 yards, and added two extra points for a career-high 17-point game. The five field goals tie a Tulane single game record. His season total improved to 12-of-16 on field goals, while he has not missed in 23 PAT tries. His 59 points lead the Green Wave in scoring.

The Lou Groza Award will be presented as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards in Orlando, Fla. on Thursday, December 12th. The three finalists will be honored at the 22nd Annual Lou Groza Awards Banquet on Tuesday, December 10th at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, Fla.
