College football’s top kicking award, the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award presented by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission recognizes three of the top kickers each week from FBS division teams as the “Stars of the Week.”  This week, the three performances are drawn from the 20 semifinalists for the award.

Among semifinalists, the best kicking performance of the week was turned in by University of Texas senior Anthony Fera, whose 4-for-4 performance was a major factor in the Longhorns’ 47-40 overtime defeat of West Virginia University in Morgantown on Saturday. His 24 yarder tied the game at 40 with 13 seconds remaining to force the overtime. The Cypress, Texas native also scored from 37, 29 and 25 yards and was perfect on five extra point tries for a 17-point game. It was his first career 4 field goal game and improved his totals to 15-of-16 on the season. His 82 points lead the Longhorns in scoring and rank him 7th in the nation among kickers.

University of Central Florida junior Shawn Moffitt saw his perfect streak come to an end but the two field goals he made were vital to the Bulls’ 19-14 homecoming defeat of the University of Houston on Saturday. The Orlando, Fla. native connected from 45 and 40 yards to open the scoring, but his 50-yard attempt was blocked. Until then, he was 11-for-11 this season and had kicked 12 consecutive field goals dating to last season which tied him for second all-time in the UCF record books. He added one PAT, extending his season total to 29-for-29 on extra point attempts. His 62 points are second in team scoring.

Colorado State junior Jared Roberts tied his career mark with a three field goal performance in the Rams’ 38-17 home victory over the University of Nevada on Saturday. The Littleton, Colo. native was a perfect 3-for-3, connecting from 46, 23 and 20 yards and adding 3 PATs. The three field goal attempts qualified him for the school career record books, and he enters at the top as the most accurate kicker in CSU history at 24-for-27. This season, Roberts has made 15 of his 17 field goal tries on the year and has not missed in 38 extra point attempts. He is second among Rams scorers with 82 points.

The Lou Groza Award will be presented as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards in Orlando, Fla. on Thursday, December 12th. The three finalists will be honored at the 22nd Annual Lou Groza Awards Banquet on Tuesday, December 10th at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, Fla.
