Groza Award Stars of the Week 9/5/06
Kicking
off the season for the 15th Annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker
Award are Nick Folk of Arizona, John Vaughn of Auburn, and Ryan
Succop of South Carolina who have been named this week’s
Top Three Stars of the Week.
With
only one second left in the game against BYU, Nick Folk hit a
48 yard field goal to win the game 16-13. Folk also hit field
goals from 22 and 30 yards earlier in the game. In addition, Folk
connected on his only extra point attempt. He accounted for 10
of the Wildcat’s points for the evening.
John
Vaughn of Auburn made an impressive 4 field goals in Auburn’s
win over Washington State. Vaughn split the uprights from 30,
31, 44, and 52 yards on Saturday. Vaughn also made all four of
his extra point attempts.
Ryan
Succop of South Carolina went a perfect 3-for-3 in the 15-0 win
over Mississippi State. Succop hit on field goals from 35, 39,
and 47 yards to account for 9 of South Carolina’s points.
In addition to making the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award
Top Three Stars of the Week, Succop also received SEC Special
Teams Player of the Week honors.

The 2006 winner of the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award
is presented by the FedEx Orange Bowl and is announced on Thursday,
December 7, 2006 during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Award
Show in Orlando, Florida. The top three finalists for the Lou
Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award are honored during the Lou
Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Banquet and Silent Auction
on Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at the Palm Beach Gardens Marriott.
This is an event of the Palm Beach County Sports Institute.
All Division I-A kickers are eligible for the Award named for
NFL Hall-of-Fame Kicker Lou "The Toe" Groza. Voters
for the award include Division I-A head coaches, sports writers
and sportscasters, conference representatives, professional kickers,
and previous Groza Award finalists.
