Groza Award Stars of the Week 9/25/06
This week’s
Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Stars of the Week are
Justin Medlock of UCLA, Gary Cismesia of Florida State, and
Scott Webb of Kansas. All three of this week’s kickers
were perfect in field goal attempts.
Justin Medlock,
UCLA, had a season long 51 yard field goal and added three others
from 22, 23, and 28 yards to go a perfect 4 for 4 on the afternoon.
He also connected on his lone extra point attempt to account
for 13 of the Bruin’s 19 points. Currently, Medlock is
tied for the nations lead in field goal made for the season
with 9 field goals.
Gary Cismesia,
Florida State, made two field goals in Florida State’s
55-7 rout over Rice. Cismesia made a career high 53 yard field
goal in the middle of the 2nd quarter. He also added a 32 yard
field goal later in the game. With the addition of his 5 extra
point field goals Cismesia contributed 11 points in the Seminoles
win.
Scott Webb,
Kansas, connected on field goals from 37 and 41 yards in the
Jayhawks’ 13-7 win over South Florida. Webb broke the
scoreless game on the first drive of the 2nd half with his 37
yard field goal. Webb also went 1 for 1 in extra point attempts.
Combined, Webb accounted for 7 of Kansas’ points for the
evening.

The 2006 winner of the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award
is presented by the FedEx Orange Bowl and is announced on Thursday,
December 7, 2006 during the ESPN Home Depot College Football
Award Show in Orlando, Florida. The top three finalists for
the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award are honored during
the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Banquet and Silent
Auction on Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at the Palm Beach Gardens
Marriott. This is an event of the Palm Beach County Sports Institute.
All Division I-A kickers are eligible for the Award named for
NFL Hall of Fame Kicker Lou "The Toe" Groza. Voters
for the award include Division I-A head coaches, sports writers
and sportscasters, conference representatives, professional
kickers, and previous Groza Award finalists.
The Lou Groza Award is also sponsored by The Breakers, Continental
