Lou Groza Award Stars of the Week

Paul Martinez of Oregon, Josh Huston of Ohio State and Alexis Serna of Oregon State are this week’s Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Top Three Stars for the Week.

Paul Martinez tied the Pac-10 single-game record for field goals made as he connected on six of six attempts in Oregon's 47-14 win against Montana. Martinez was good on three-pointers from 26, 40, 39, 37, 42 and 20 yards. That established a new Oregon record for field goals made in a game and tied the Pac-10 record (John Lee, UCLA vs. San Diego State, 1984) while also tying the NCAA record for field goals made in a half (5). For a second straight week, the performance earned Martinez Pac-10 special teams honors and resulted in him being named a Lou Groza Award Star for the Week. He currently leads the nation in field goals per game after connecting successfully on 11-of-12 for the season.

Josh Huston of Ohio State kicked five field goals at 45, 36, 25, 44 and 26 yards, tying the school and Ohio Stadium record with his fifth field goal of the game to retake a six-point lead against Texas. His connection from 26 yards out made the score 22-16 with 5:12 to play. He tied former Buckeyes Mike Nugent (2004 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Winner) and Bob Atha with five field goals in a game. Huston also had one extra point during the game.

Alexis Serna kicked a 29-yard field goal with 1:03 to go and Oregon State came from behind to beat Boise State 30-27. Serna also kicked field goals of 40 and 32 yards to get the Beavers to within 24-20, his third field goal of the day proved to be the winner. He also scored three extra points in the game.
