Lou Groza Award Stars of the Week

WEST PALM BEACH, FL – Alexis Serna of Oregon State, Reagan Schneider of UTEP and John Deraney of North Carolina State are this week’s Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Top Three Stars of the Week.

Alexis Serna made all six field goal attempts in windy and rainy conditions to lead Oregon State to a 18-10 victory over Washington.  Serna’s field goals – from 46, 28, 18, 32, 41 and 25 yards – made him 11-for-11 in his last two games against Washington and were the only points scored by the Beavers in the game. 

Reagan Schneider kicked a 23-yard field goal with only two seconds left to lift UTEP to a 41-38 victory against Tulsa.  Schneider also made a 32-yard field goal in the second quarter of the game.

John Deraney made field goals from 48 and 22-yards and two extra points in North Carolina State’s 20-15 upset of No. 9 Florida State at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida.

The Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award presented by the FedEx Orange Bowl recognizes the top place-kicker in NCAA Division I-A football.  The 20 semi-finalists for the Lou Groza Award are announced Monday, November 7, followed by the naming of the three Award finalists on Monday, November 21.  The top three finalists are honored during the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Dinner, an event of the Palm Beach County Sports Institute, on Tuesday, December 6 at the Palm Beach Gardens Marriott. The 2005 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award winner is announced on Thursday, December 8 during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Award Show in Orlando, Florida. 

All Division I-A kickers are eligible for the Award named for NFL Hall-of-Fame Kicker Lou "The Toe" Groza. Voters for the award include Division I-A head coaches, sports writers and sportscasters, conference representatives, professional kickers and previous Groza Award finalists.
