Groza Award Stars of the Week
WEST PALM BEACH, FL – Connor Hughes of Virginia, Jamie Christensen of Alabama and Loren Langley of Washington State are this week’s Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Top Three Stars of the Week.
Connor Hughes hit four field goals from 50, 37, 35 and 45 yards to help Virginia defeat the fourth-ranked Seminoles 26-21. Hughes also completed two extra points, for a total of 14 points in the game.
Jamie Christensen kicked a 31-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Crimson Tide past Mississippi 13-10. Christensen also completed a 43-yard field goal in the second quarter to bring Alabama within four points.
Loren Langley was 100 percent on field goal attempts, hitting a 48-yarder in the third quarter and a 38-yarder in overtime during Washington State’s defeat to UCLA, 44-41. Langley also had five extra points in the game.

The 2005 winner of the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award is presented by the FedEx Orange Bowl and is announced on Thursday, December 8, 2005 during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Award Show in Orlando, Florida. The top three finalists for the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award are honored during the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Banquet and Silent Auction on Tuesday, December 6, 2005, at the Palm Beach Gardens Marriott. This is an event of the Palm Beach County Sports Institute.
All Division I-A kickers are eligible for the Award named for NFL Hall-of-Fame Kicker Lou "The Toe" Groza. Voters for the award include Division I-A head coaches, sports writers and sportscasters, conference representatives, professional kickers, and previous Groza Award finalists.
