7/29/03 – Former All-Pro Mercury Morris To Be Guest Speaker

Former Miami Dolphins star and three-time NFL Pro Bowler Eugene “Mercury” Morris has agreed to serve as the Guest Speaker at the 2003 Lou Groza Award Banquet on December 9, 2003, at the Palm Beach Gardens Marriott in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

Morris graduated from West Texas State University and was drafted by the Dolphins in the third round of the 1969 NFL Draft. Morris was one of the key members of the undefeated 1972 team, where he rushed for 1,000 yards and scored 12 touchdowns. He combined that year with Larry Csonka to become the first pair of teammates to rush for at least 1,000 yards in the same season. He was named a Pro Bowler in 1971, 1972, and 1973 and ranks second on Miami’s all-time career rushing list. Morris spent seven years with the Dolphins before playing for the San Diego Chargers for one year.
