College football’s top kicking award, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award presented by the Orange Bowl recognizes three of the top kickers each week from FBS division teams as the “Stars of the Week.”

Kicking off a wet field in the rain, Miami senior Michael Badgley made the 24-yard game-winner with four second left to give the Hurricanes a 25-24 win over Georgia Tech in ACC action in Miami Gardens, FL on Saturday. The win kept the Canes’ undefeated season intact. The 2015 Groza semifinalist from Summit, NJ also had makes of 33, 32, and 21 yards to bring his career total to 69 makes, second-most in Miami history. Badgley has made 9 of 10 field goals this season. He converted his only extra point try for a 13-point game to bring his season total to a team-leading 47 points.

Daniel LaCamera kicked four field goals and Texas A&M handed Florida a second home loss in as many weeks, 19-17 in SEC action Saturday night. Three of the four came in the 4th quarter, with the junior’s 32 yarder in the final minute of play the game winner. The Tarpon Springs, FL native also connected from 46, 43, and 25 yards to match his career-high for field goals in a game. He also converted his only extra point try. LaCamera has made 14 of 16 field goals this season to tie him for second in makes among all FBS kickers. He is 13-for-13 on field goal tries of less than 50 yards, and has made all 25 extra point attempts.

South Florida senior Emilio Nadelman earned his second Star of the Week selection of the season by making four field goals in the Bulls’ 33-3 thumping of Cincinnati in AAC action in Tampa on Saturday. It was his 4th game of the season with multiple field goals and increased his total to 14-for-15, which ties him for second in the FBS in makes and the nation’s best accuracy among kickers with double-digit attempts. The Miami, FL native had makes of 39, 28, 24 and 21 yards to extend his streak to 13 tries without a miss, tying him with 2013 Groza finalist Marvin Kloss for the school record. He added three PATs for a 15-point game, bringing his season total to 71 points to lead all USF players and one short of the FBS lead in kick-scoring.

The Award is named for National Football League Hall of Fame kicker Lou “The Toe” Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954. Although an All-Pro offensive lineman as well, Groza ushered in the notion that there should be a place on an NFL roster for a kicker.
