College football’s top kicking award, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award presented by the Orange Bowl recognizes three of the top kickers each week from FBS division teams as the “Stars of the Week.” This week, the three performances are drawn from the 20 semifinalists for the award.

Florida State sophomore Roberto Aguayo added to his quest to defend his 2013 Groza Award with another perfect game in the Seminoles’ 34-20 win over Virginia in ACC action in Tallahassee on Saturday. The Mascotte, Fla. native connected on field goals of 43 and 40 yards and added four more extra points to increase his career PAT string to 135 straight, contributing to the ‘Noles 25th consecutive victory which keeps them in contention for a spot in the inaugural College Football Playoff. Aguayo, who has never missed an extra point try, is now 16 of 17 on field goals this season.  He has made 172 of his 174 of his kicks (98.9%) for 248 career points, ninth in school history. His 89 points this season lead the team and place him fifth in the nation among place-kickers.

ULM kicker Justin Manton’s three field goal performance was best among the 20 Lou Groza Award semifinalists this week. The senior from Prairieville, La. connected from 38, 35 and 31 yards out and added a pair of extra points, but the Warhawks could not hold a 23-21 lead and fell to Appalachian State 31-29 in Boone, N.C. on Saturday. Manton improved his season totals to 14 of 16 on field goals with his third straight game in which he matched his career-best three field goals. His 11 points in the game were also a career high. He has not missed a PAT in 16 attempts this season, giving him 58 points to lead the team in scoring.

Duke’s Ross Martin is one of two qualified place-kickers in the nation without a miss of any kind this season. The junior from Solon, Ohio made field goals of 34 and 27 yards and added three extra points in the Blue Devils’ 27-10 ACC victory over Syracuse on the road Saturday. Martin, a Groza semifinalist in 2012 as well, has made all 13 of his field goal attempts and is perfect after 38 extra point tries. He has now made a school-record 101 consecutive PATs. Martin has scored at least one point in 36 straight games and has made at least one field goal in all nine games this season. He leads all Blue Devil players with 77 points.

The Lou Groza Award will be presented as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards in Orlando, Fla. on Thursday, December 11th. The three finalists will be honored at the 23rd Annual Lou Groza Awards Banquet on Tuesday, December 9th at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, Fla.
