College football’s top kicking award, the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award presented by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission recognizes three of the top kickers each week from FBS division teams as the “Stars of the Week.”

Clemson University senior Chandler Catanzaro’s 16-point performance was this week’s best among the nation’s place-kickers and helped the 9th ranked Tigers to a 40-27 victory over the University of Maryland in College Park on Saturday. The Greenville, S.C. native connected from 31, 29, 25 and 24 yards and added 4 PATs. Catanzaro, a Groza Award semifinalist in both 2011 and 2012, moved into fourth place on the ACC career scoring list with 367 points.  He has made 9 of 10 field goal attempts this season and all 35 extra point tries.

Jason Dann’s 42-yard field goal with four seconds left was just one of the four he kicked in Texas State’s 33-31 victory over the University of South Alabama in Sun Belt Conference action on Saturday. The junior from Richardson, Texas also scored from 43, 37 and 35 yards out and added three extra points to spark the Bobcats homecoming win.  Dann has not missed a field goal or extra point try since taking over the place-kicking duties in week five of the season. He is 8-for-8 on field goals and 9-for-9 on extra point tries, with his 33 points already ranking third in team scoring.

It was a career game for Louisiana Tech sophomore Kyle Fischer, whose five field goals provided most of the offense in the Bulldogs’ 23-7 defeat of Florida International University in Miami in Conference USA action. The Frisco, Texas native bested his previous single-game mark of three field goals by hitting twice from 35 yards out plus makes from 33, 30 and 26 yards. It’s the first time a Louisiana Tech kicker has made even four field goals since 2008, and helped the program to its first win in the state of Florida since 1999. Fischer improved his season field goal mark to 15-of-20 and his 58 points lead the team in scoring.

The Lou Groza Award will be presented as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards in Orlando, Fla. on Thursday, December 12th. The three finalists will be honored at the 22nd Annual Lou Groza Awards Banquet on Tuesday, December 10th at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, Fla.
