College football’s top kicking award, the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award presented by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission recognizes three of the top kickers each week from FBS division teams as the “Stars of the Week.”

While Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston’s name is gaining momentum on the “Heisman watch” another freshman, kicker Roberto Aguayo is making a strong bid to become the third Seminole to win the Lou Groza Award. The Mascotte, Fla. native kicked three field goals and six extra points in FSU’s 51-14 blowout of Clemson in a key ACC matchup in Death Valley Saturday night. Aguayo, who inherited the job from two-time Groza finalist Dustin Hopkins, has yet to miss a kick of any kind to start his career.  He is 10-for-10 on field goals, the most in the nation among those kickers who have yet to miss, and has made all 41 extra point tries. His 71 points are third in the nation in kick-scoring and lead all Seminole players.

The honor for the most productive performance of the week by a kicker belongs to University of Missouri sophomore Andrew Baggett who scored 18 points on five field goals and three PATs in the Tigers’ 36-17 defeat of the University of Florida on Saturday in the Gators’ first ever trip to Columbia. The Lee’s Summit, Mo. native scored from 43, 39, 33, 28, and 19 yards to tie the school record for field goals in a game, last accomplished in 1992. The 18 points are the most by a kicker in Missouri history and raised his season total to 70 points, which is fourth in the nation among kickers and leads all Tiger players.

University of Tennessee senior Michael Palardy kicked the first game-winning field goal of his career as time expired Saturday and gave the Vols a 23-21 upset of #11 South Carolina in SEC action in Knoxville. The 19 yarder enabled the Vols to snap a 19-game losing streak against ranked opponents. Not only was it Palardy’s first game-winner, the kick was Tennessee’s first since 2004. The Coral Springs, Fla. native also connected from 37 and 33 yards and made both his extra point attempts.  He has not missed in 27 PAT tries this season. In addition to serving as the team’s punter, Palardy leads the Vols in scoring with 51 points.

The Lou Groza Award will be presented as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards in Orlando, Fla. on Thursday, December 12th. The three finalists will be honored at the 22nd Annual Lou Groza Awards Banquet on Tuesday, December 10th at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, Fla.
