Stars of the Week
9/20/10
College football’s top kicking award, the Lou Groza Collegiate Place Kicker Award sponsored by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission recognizes three of the top kickers each week from FBS division (Div 1A) teams as the “Stars of the Week”. Senior Scott Blair continued his perfect season, kicking three field goals in Georgia Tech’s 31-24 defeat of North Carolina in ACC action on Saturday. The Calhoun, Georgia native connected from 22, 36, and 46 yards. He added three PATs to extend his streak to 51 in a row, dating back to last season. After three games, Blair has yet to miss a kick. He played in his 43rd career game, the most of any current Yellow Jacket. Sophomore Trey Farquhar’s 50 yard field goal put Idaho up two scores on the way to the Vandals’ 30-7 thumping of the UNLV Rebels. It was the third field goal of 50 yards or longer in his short career. Farquhar also connected from 27 and 44 yards for a perfect three-for-three day. He added three extra points and has made all 11 of his PAT tries this season. After three weeks, he is five-of-seven in field goal tries. Josh Jasper broke his own records leading the LSU Tigers to a 29-7 victory over the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Baton Rouge on Saturday night. His four field goals in the first half are a school record, and he broke his own school record with five field goals in the game, converting from 21, 32, 37, 44 and 51 yards. The Memphis, Tennessee native added two extra points for a 17 point day. The Lou Groza Award will be presented as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show in Orlando, Florida on Thursday December 9th. The three finalists will be recognized at the 19th Annual Lou Groza Awards Banquet on Tuesday December 7th at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.
